A Certified Financial planner ranks #36 in Best Jobs. A Certified Financial Planner (CFP) is a certificate that shows your expertise in financial planning, taxes, insurance, estate planning, and retirement. This certificate is awarded by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards once you complete their requirements. Only by this description alone, you can imagine the array of jobs and entrepreneurship business opportunities that is available for you if you wish to become a Certified Financial Planner.

Salary of Certified Financial Planner (CFP)

As of 2018, Certified Financial Planner in the United States makes a $66,125 from an average low of $50,900 per year in California to an average high of $101,250 in Massachusetts.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT TO BECOME A CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER (CFP)

The education requirement for attaining CFP® certification consist of two parts:

You must complete a set of a college or university-level coursework (about six classes) through a program that is registered with CFP Board and confirm that you hold a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.


The coursework requirement must be fulfilled before you complete the CFP® Certification Examination. The bachelor’s degree requirement may be completed after you pass the exam (within five years). If the bachelor’s degree is not completed, you have to retake the certification test or request an extension (for three years).

a comprehensive financial planning capstone course.

COMPLETING THE CFP EDUCATION COURSEWORK REQUIREMENT


You can fulfill the education courses required for CFP® certification using any of the following methods.

  1. You can complete a CFP Board-Registered Program through any of the programs that I will list below
  2. You can complete the courses that will discuss all of the required significant personal financial planning areas at multiple CFP Board-Registered Programs
  3. You can obtain “Challenge Status” by holding a specific academic degree or professional credential that is accepted by CFP Board and completing a capstone course registered with CFP Board
  4. Lastly, classes that you have taken may qualify for part of the education coursework requirement through a Transcript Review
